The Brecon Beacons
The Great Outdoors
Classic
walking country, the Brecon Beacons National Park is well known for
its dramatic landscape and superb vistas. There are countless
trails of varying lengths and difficulties throughout the park but
we've only listed a couple for you here.
The Beacons Way 152 km (95 miles)
Going right the way across the Brecon Beacons, the Beacons Way walk
offers some of the best views in the National Park has to
offer. It takes 8 days if you want to complete the whole
trail in one go. If not, just do a section at a time, I won't
blame you.
Corn Du and Pen y Fan 8 km (5 miles)
A challenging walk to the famous ridged summits of the high
Beacons. Pen y Fan is the highest mountain in South Wales and
as you can imagine the views from the top are well worth the
effort. Start at Storey Arms on the A470 between Merthyr
Tydfil and Brecon.
Sugar Loaf 10 km (6 miles)
A popular hill walk right on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and the
beautiful market town of Abergavenny. There are spectacular
views from the summit (as you'd expect) and the paths to the top
are relatively easy.
Ysgyrid Fawr/Skirrid Mountain 5 km (3 miles)
An easily accessible walk over a breathtaking mini-mountain with
fabulous views, also just outside Abergavenny.
